This article is for all of those who are living the log home life style or who are in the planning process of building the log home dream.
My husband and I have been blessed with being able to live in a log home in the foothills of Colorado for the last three and a half years. I often come across people who are searching for the perfect log home accessories to compliment the beautiful woodsy interiors of their log homes.
After several weeks of disappointment and on the verge of giving up completely, we came to the conclusion that we had two choices, keep looking for the perfect light fixture, or create our own. We chose the second option.
My husband and I designed and built a chandelier using aspen logs and elk antlers. It was the most magnificent thing I had ever seen. This chandelier was so incredibly perfect for our log home. Installing this gorgeous piece of art at the highest peak in our great room took a bit of effort, but the results were awesome.
As a result of this gratifying experience, I reluctantly quit my job in town, and now spend my days working with aspen and pine logs. I am now creating beautiful one-of-a-kind table lamps, floor lamps and chandeliers. I have added a few other accessories to my collection, including handcrafted lampshades and adorable aspen log reindeer for the holidays, but I focus mainly on log lighting. My son worked weeks building a website for me, so that I would have a place to display my work.
I am very excited about my newly found occupation, and am looking forward to creating many more pieces of art that will find their way into homes everywhere.
My husband still teases me when he gets home from work at the end of the day. I’ll be covered in saw dust from head to toe, smudges on my face, and eager to show him my newest creations. With a big grin, and a bit of humor in his voice, he wittingly remarks, “not bad for a girl".
